My wife and I play Mario Kart Wii all the time and there is a screen that tells you what you preference is, to use the wheel or not. And if you use the wheel a lot while playing online eventually you get a golden wheel next to your name. How does the Wii know you’re using the wheel. There are no batteries in it, so it isn’t sending any type of signal and there are no connections going from the wiimote to the wheel. Is mario spying on us?

I don’t want to buy another wii wheel and i thought of making one but is it harder to just use the wii remote sideways? I need help on this one!
